Main Story
Summary
You travel to Blade Peak on Taihua Mountain in hopes of awakening one of the legendary swords left behind in the battlefield. Though you successfully bind to the Bladeheart of one of the swords, an evil cult called the Devastators launches an attack on Taihua Mountain and on the Valley of a Hundred Grasses. You travel with Haocang to the Valley to assist, but both off you are exposed to poison and malicious qi. Haocang succumbs to corruption and betrays his sect. He steals the unnamed sword belonging to Yue Tanxing and uses it to break the formation on the Lunar Crown Tree, sending his wife to her death in the process.
The damage done, you are sent to Cloudrise to request aid from the Qin League. While Lilane and the other elders at Cloudrise work out a solution, Lilane also tells you that the Soulforce of the Bladeheart is unstable after having weakened from age and exposure to negative qi. Kunwuzi assists you in temporarily stabilizing the Bladeheart, but the Bladeheart remains in critical condition. Kunwuzi suggests returning to your class's school to borrow a relic of the Bladeheart's previous master, which should help the Bladeheart regain consciousness.
Once you return to your school and view memories of the Bladeheart's previous master, symptoms of the Bladeheart's illness are alleviated. Still, the Bladeheart is unstable, so Kunwuzi directs you to Heavenly Ridge to use a powerful formation to stabilize the sword spirit.
Upon arriving at Heavenly Ridge you encounter two tribes, the Hezhao and the Wuzhao. The Wuzhao clan had become nocturnal spirits in the past due to corruption from a Demonsword wielded by Wu Yeyu, the general of the Hezhao clan. In the present, some of the Wuzhao clan are becoming evil after absorbing malicious qi. As you prepare to undergo the Earth Emperor's Sacrifice Formation to stabilize the Bladeheart, you discover Xiya, the General of the Wuzhao, has taken possession of a new Demonsword and is rebelling. The Formation ritual is interrupted as rebel nocturnal spirits launch an attack on the Hall of Silence. After Xiya's attack, the Grand Summoner Ming Yuechen sends word that the Demonsword wielded by Xiya seems to be related to the negative qi left behind in Taihua Mountain and the Valley of a Hundred Grasses.
You and Yilang, princess of the Wuzhao, confront Xiya. Before you can overpower him, Haocang reappears and strengthens the Demonsword using a formation before disappearing once more. After you defeat Xiya, you try to disrupt the formation and pull out the Demonsword. It does not end well as you find yourself on the brink of life and death in the underworld, your souls scattered. The Bladeheart appears and directs you to collect your scattered souls. With the help of the Bladeheart and the ferryman of the Turquoise Lantern, you traverse through the Yin Springs and return to the land of the living.
